Existential pondering moment: if you’re in the mood to go see a show, does it actually matter who you see play? Sure, Man Man in a Philly park was ridiculously amazing, but that’s because it was Man Man, and not because I had some burning desire to feel speakers throb something through my chest that night. If it’s the feeling of being in a crowd of people absorbing stage noise, does it matter, ultimately, what you hear? Doesn’t it all feel good, provided, of course, that it doesn’t just plain suck? I’m trying to plot a line here between going to see someone, and going to see whatever. Maybe it’s cost. Or energy needed. There’s no way I’m gonna throw down $65 on a ticket unless it’s for Björk or the like, and I’m certainly not driving to Boston unless whoever is playing is worth two hours on the Pike. But for $30 and an artist I’m passably into, is it worth it for that feeling of being At a Show on Saturday?
